babies need to hear themselves in order to move from cooing to babbling! It’s called the auditory feedback loop. If by 9 months your baby isn’t vocally babbling things like mamama, dadada, bababa I would go get their hearing checked by a pediatric audiologist to rule that out. Deaf babies should still be babbling though, just with their hands instead of their voice!
